Teaching with Technology Workshop: Searchable, Talking PDF's

Presenter(s):
Craig Spooner and Jess Hausler - ACCESS Project
Description:
Who's not familiar with PDF files? They're portable —thus the name: Portable Document Files—they preserve fonts and formatting, and are great for printing. Some PDFs lack the basic amenities of modern electronic documents, however; features such as searchability, copy and paste, highlighting & markup, as well as text-to-speech. PDFs without these features usually come from scanned source material—pages from books or older journal articles, in particular —but they can also result from electronic originals that lack basic structure. Please join Jesse Hausler and Craig Spooner from the ACCESS Project to learn some of the simple techniques that will make PDF files more useful to you and your students.
