AI and Assessment: Assigning and Assessing ChatGPT in the Classroom

Presenter(s):
Kira Marshall-McKelvey
Description:
This event has been canceled.

With the advent of Open AI’s program, ChatGPT, educators worldwide have questioned the role of teaching in the college classroom. We must confront new questions of plagiarism detection, assignment applicability, and assessment practices. While ChatGPT does create existential (and ethical) dilemmas, this workshop will help instructors develop practical strategies for using ChatGPT and AI strategically and productively in the classroom. We will discuss the ways we might caution students to not use ChatGPT in addition to brainstorming assignments and assessment strategies that acknowledge the utility of this platform.

    By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify ethical dilemmas in ChatGPT
  • Evaluate potential use cases of ChatGPT
  • Brainstorm assignments that incorporate ChatGPT
