How To Do Interdisciplinary Team-Teaching: A Panel Discussion

Presenter(s):
Lynn Badia, Assistant Professor of English, Dan Beachy-Quick, Professor of English, and Del Harrow, Associate Professor of Art and Art History
Description:
Teaching can sometimes be a lonely endeavor, with one instructor as the primary source of knowledge, energy, and expertise in the classroom. Yet, the single instructor model need not be the only way to teach a class. Team-teaching--particularly involving teams of teachers that breach disciplinary boundaries--has emerged as an exciting way for instructors to explore interdisciplinary ideas with students, innovate in the classroom, and stretch themselves as educators. But team-teaching also brings challenges around shared labor, expertise and authority, and class organization, among many others issues. How then do we actually go about doing team-teaching, particularly across the disciplines?

Join us on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 12:00 (noon) in TILT 105 as the CLA MTI program sponsors a moderated panel discussion on the doing of team-teaching across the disciplines. Our fabulous panelists for this conversation--all of whom have recently participated in CLA interdisciplinary team teaching opportunities--are:
• Lynn Badia, Assistant Professor of English
• Dan Beachy-Quick, Professor of English
• Del Harrow, Associate Professor of Art and Art History

During the conversation, these panelists will offer their own insights on team-teaching as well as answer moderator and audience questions.
