Critical Thinking and Writing-to-Engage

Presenter(s):
Dr. Sue Doe, English
Description:
Join Mike Palmquist, Director of TILT, and gtPathways coordinator, Sue Doe, for a discussion of the notion of write-to-engage. Write-to-engage prompts are useful for getting students to think critically during class. They also keep students engaged and accountable for classroom material which, in turn, helps with retention of content. At this workshop we will discuss strategies for stimulating critical thinking through write-to-engage approaches in the classroom and in electronic forums. What are the strategies? What are the advantages? And how do we hold students accountable for in-class writing and manage the daunting task of responding to it?
