Faculty Voices from the Frontier: Engaging in a Critical Dialogue About Peer Evaluation and Other Challenging Conversations About Teaching

Presenter(s):
Laurie Carlson
Description:
Teaching is a key component of faculty responsibility at the university and often constitutes the most significant portion of a faculty member's load, yet it is often the case that minimal attention is placed upon equitable and effective evaluation strategies that support faculty development and success in the multitude of learning environments present within higher education. Peer evaluation is one approach to addressing these concerns and has been utilized in a myriad of ways with varying success. What makes peer evaluation successful? How can the process and product of such evaluation be improved? Who is most qualified to guide revision and expansion of such evaluation strategies? The answers begin with YOU - please join Dr. Laurie Carlson and your colleagues in a critical dialogue regarding the use of peer evaluation to promote the art and science of teaching at Colorado State University.
