Grading Practices that Support Students

Description:
Presenter Name and Title: Lisa Dysleski, Associate Deans for Undergraduate Programs; Alyson Huff, Noah Racey, Jess Rushing Presentation Description: Do you ever wish your students would be more worried about their learning than the number of points they receive on an exam or assignment? Or that students wouldn't approach you about the extra credit that could bring their B to an A? Do you ever wonder if grades actually hinder the learning process? Maybe you wish grading was not part of your teaching job at all due to the stress on students and on you? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions or are curious about the alternative-grading movement in higher education, we invite you to join this session. We will introduce you to the history and rationale for alternative-grading practices and to several CSU faculty who use these practices to make their course a learner-centered, supportive, and equitable experience for all students. If you already use alternative-grading practices in your course, you are welcome to join the session to share your story and meet like-minded colleagues.
